Janet Queen was born in Oban on the west coast of Scotland. After working in gardens in Perthshire she studied horticulture for three years at the Royal Botanic Garden, Edinburgh. Formerly a head gardener with the National Trust for Scotland, and on private estates in Northamptonshire and the Outer Hebrides, Janet now lives in Cumbria, northern England. As well as maintaining Rose Castle garden, she works as a garden writer, contributing regularly to magazines and newspapers. She is also developing her own garden in Lunigiana, northern Italy.
Janet has a prolific photographic collection taken over many years at Rose Castle. We are so indebted to her, for giving us unlimited access to her quality photographs of Castle and Gardens which are used throughout this website, as well as keeping the gardens in shape and preserved for generations to come. Thank you Janet!
Clearing the ivy is just one of many jobs that our small garden team undertake through the annual cycle of growth and subsequent pruning around the acres of gardens.
