Glorious Gardens

Walk our 7 acres of gardens within our 60 acre estate

For 800 years, 63 successive Bishops have tended to the gardens, as part of defensive border position and also a living home. With 12 Habitats diverse from each other, the Apothecary Garden and Vegetable Garden provide ingredients to our Chef's table.

Delight in walking our grounds both on Saturday afternoon and also Sunday morning, after you luxury breakfast in the State Dining Room, where Bishop Richard Sterne's court cupboard, initialled and dated 1660, still stores our historic tableware!

June is one of the best months to see our Rose Castle Gardens and the views across Caldew River to the east, and the Lake District Fells to the south, just a handful of miles away.
