Embark on a 7-night journey through northern England, where history and landscape come alive.
Begin by exploring Hadrian’s Wall, one of Roman Britain’s greatest achievements, stretching 73 miles from the Tyne to the Solway Firth. Discover its forts, milecastles, and watchtowers, and gain insight into the lives of the people who built and defended this frontier of the Empire. Visit Carlisle, a city shaped by centuries of history—from its origins as the Roman settlement of Luguvalium to its turbulent role in the Anglo-Scottish borderlands. Here, your expert guide will share the stories and heritage that make this city so compelling.
Then, step into the Northern Lake District, where serene lakes and rolling fells provide the perfect setting for gentle guided walks. Explore the shores of Buttermere, Ullswater, and Derwent Water, uncovering tales of local life, geology, and the creative spirits inspired by this remarkable landscape.
Throughout your journey, Rose Castle serves as a tranquil base, offering elegant full-board accommodations where you can relax and reflect after days of discovery. This carefully curated itinerary balances active exploration with rest, offering a rich, immersive experience for those who appreciate both history and nature.
